Day is looking strong off the back of his fifth Coolangatta Gold win and in addition to his great form he has the single minded focus to win another title and prove his Nutri-Grain title win a few years ago wasn’t a one off.
Defending champion Matt Poole lines up this weekend with pressure on his shoulders, due to a strong field of athletes determined to make their mark.
Joining Poole on the start line amongst others, is nine-time Nutri-Grain Series winner, Shannon Eckstein, Kendrick Louis and Matt Bevilacqua.
Eckstein has had a great start to the season with a second place in the recent Coolangatta Gold endurance race.
Louis has really found his stride and is a danger to the other competitors after finishing third last season and wanting to continue that form, while Bevilacqua is proving to be a strong challenger spending the winter season training hard and having shown over the past two seasons he has what it takes to compete.
Meanwhile, the Nutri-Grain IronWoman Series has the potential to be the most hotly contended season ever with current champion, Harriet Brown unstoppable in winning everything possible last season.
Her breakthrough came when she won the 2016 World IronWoman crown giving her a renewed confidence. Brown has been competing and winning many ocean/waterman events around the world during the pre-season which has set her up to defend her Nutri-Grain IronWoman title.
The racing kicks off at 12pm this Sunday.
