Kiama Downs surfers Lani Carincross and Xander Ross put in a huge effort, finishing first and second respectively in the under 8 division.
Having competed in this series since she was seven years old, Cedar Leigh-Jones (Avalon) was able to take a final victory in her last ever Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps presented by Wahu. Leigh-Jones finished with a bang in the Under-14 Girls final, posting a giant 17.33 two-wave heat total (out of a possible 20 points) to leave her fellow competitors chasing a combination of scores to take away her lead.
Jarvis Earle (Cronulla) continued to build on his highlight reel performance in the Under-14 Boys taking out the final. Earle notched up a respectable 14.1 heat score to claim the win ahead of Wollongong local Lennix Smith (Barrack Point) who put up a valiant fight and finished in second position.
Fletcher Kelleher (Freshwater) claimed his third Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps presented by Wahu title on the trot, taking out the Under-12 Boys division. Kelleher and Hugh Vaughan (Bateau Bay) went neck-and-neck for the title with only 0.07 point separating the two surfers when the final hooter blew.
Wollongong local Tyla Hurst (Port Kembla) claimed her second Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps presented by Wahu title in as many events, taking out the Under-12 Girls. Hurt took dual victories across both heats to take out the top spot on the leaderboard.
Regarded as one of the major stepping stones in the development of young Australian surfers, the 10-event Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps presented by Wahu caters for surfers from Under 8 to Under 14 and will be held in NSW, QLD, Vic, WA and SA over summer. As an added bonus, the respective winners of the Under 14 boys’ and girls’ divisions from each event will receive an invite to attend an all-expenses-paid, three-day Woolworths Surf Camp at the Hurley Surfing Australia High-Performance Centre (HPC). For the South Australian, Victorian and Tasmanian events, the Woolworths Surf Camp prize will be awarded to the highest place Under-14 Boy and Girl who reside in that respective State.
Each entrant will also receive a Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps presented by Wahu t-shirt for entering, plus a Wahu beach product and there will be plenty of Wahu beach games and giveaways at each event.
