The girls developed an app specific to Kiama, called Racket, and is designed to encourage random acts of kindness.

Mentor and coach Lauren Purcell said the teams had worked hard for 12-weeks in the lead-up to the competition.
“They’re been following a schedule and achieving milestones along the way, then they submitted their app as well as a business plan and a video pitch covering the whole business idea,” she said.
The students took out the prize against 260 teams from across Australia and New Zealand.
“Out of that, they now get to have a discussion with the head honchos of Tech Girls Superheroes and redevelop their app to submit to the international Technovation Challenge in the United States.”
The competition invites girls from all over the world to learn and apply the skills needed to solve real-world problems through technology.
Principal Michael Honeywood said the win was a big thrill, not just for the girls but for the entire school.
“There was another girls team who were narrowly beaten as well, it gives the school a whole new direction and a new focus,” he said.
“This goes beyond the classroom and beyond Kiama, this could be international for the girls.
“The amazing thing about what they have achieved is about the ideas. So many apps have been released and there’s still new ideas and creativity happening at such a young age, it’s just wonderful.”
