RELATED STORY
Councillor Neil Riley said it was wonderful when people were recognised by their community.
“It’s not a recognition that is for a day and then they go home and forget about it and we go home and forget about it, we like to remember it,” he said.
“I think it’s good to get this powerful group of people in one room, where they can exchange anecdotes of their time as Citizen of the Year, or whatever it was they were granted.
“Also, they’re going to be out little army of recruiters and these people who have been there and know the value of it are going to help us gain additional nominations so that we can recognise people and thank them for what they’re doing, but also to encourage others to do interesting and extraordinary things.”
