The Year 7 student from Albion Park High School is giving to back to one of Australia’s most iconic charities as part of a school project.
Lachlan hoped to raise $300 for the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RDFS) but upped it to $500 soon after reaching his original target.
‘’I became interested in the Royal Flying Doctor Service after visiting their museum in Darwin, seeing the memorial for their founder Reverend John Flynn and driving over landing strips on the Nullarbor,’’ Lachlan said.
‘’With all the travelling we did, it made me realise how remote some of the town are around Australia, how important the RFDS is and the types of equipment they need to do that work.
‘’By raising money and awareness, this can help provide new planes, fuel, medical resources, more doctor, nurses and pilots.
‘’It can also help encourage more donations from the community and respect for the work the RFDS does.’’
The RFDS praised the efforts of one of their youngest fundraisers.
‘’We are so impressed with the initiative Lachlan has shown and the generous way he has offered to support us,’’ RFDS South Eastern Section community fundraising coordinator Prue Steel said.
‘’As a not-for-profit charity, the Flying Doctor relies on the support of community members like Lachlan so we can deliver the finest care to the furthest corners of Australia.
‘’We’d like say a big thanks to Lachlan and everyone who has donated to his online fundraising page.
‘’Their support will help keep us in flight, saving lives in the outback.’’
