Kiama Council is holding public hearings to discuss its plans for Iluka Reserve, in Kiama Downs, on Monday 26 June and Monday, July 3.
Acting general manager Kerry McMurray said council is proposing to rezone and reclassify part of Iluka Reserve so that it can be used for housing;
“Around 8,700 square metres of Iluka Reserve would be used for housing, with the remaining 15,000 square metres staying as a reserve,” he said.
“The planning proposal is on public exhibition and people can make written submissions, but the public hearings will allow people raise their concerns in person.
“Planning matters such as rezoning and reclassification can be complicated, so I encourage people wanting to ask questions to make use of these hearings.”
Mr McMurray said council had engaged an independent planning consultant to manage the hearings and provide a report to council.
Council staff will on hand at the hearings to answer questions.
The hearings will be conducted at the Council administration building, 11 Manning Street, at 2pm on Monday, June 26 and 7pm on Monday, July 3.
“We have provided an after-hours hearing after feedback from residents and other community members that they were unable to attend the first hearing which is during business hours,” he said.
“If people cannot make either of the hearings, they can still submit their comments in writing up until 4pm on 10 July.”
The report from the public hearings and written submissions will be provided to councillors at their August or September meeting, before they decide on the proposal.
Those interested in attending the public hearing can contact council on 4232 0444 or email council@kiama.nsw.gov.au.
Written submissions should be made to the general manager, quoting SC2677.
The plans for Iluka Reserve can be viewed at Council’s administration building at 11 Manning Street, Kiama, or online at www.kiama.nsw.gov.au
Two unrelated planning proposals will form part of the public hearings; these are for Lot 208 DP 792192 (9 O’Connell Place, Gerringong) and Lot 12 DP 708075, Lots 36 & 45 DP 263449 and Lot 38 DP 630551, Irvine Street Kiama.
