Demolition work at the site has been completed with earthworks starting in earnest on the new complex planned for the intersection of the highway and Plunkett Street. It will also be bordered by Haigh Avenue.

The site has been levelled and petrol tanks installed for the BP service station, which will also have a convenience store.

Other services are being installed at the site.

Previous buildings, including the former car yard, TLE Electrical business and Kennedy Automotives, as well as part of the former Autobarn building have been demolished.

Autobarn has relocated next door into the adjoining former Uncle Pete’s Toys building.

The proposal by North Sydney company, RG Property Ten Pty Ltd includes the service station, convenience store, McDonald’s restaurant, car parking, signage and associated works.

The McDonald’s outlet will have drive through facilities and on site seating for 36 patrons, as well as 69 car parks, including one disabled space, two long vehicles/trailers spaces and five motorbike spaces.

The service station will feature four bowsers, a fuel canopy and a 200 square metre convenience store as well as loading/service area.

Modifications will be made to existing vehicle access points in Haigh Avenue and Plunkett Street.

It is proposed to construct a new vehicle exit/entry point on Plunkett Street as far away from the Princes Highway as possible.

The existing driveways on Plunkett Street will be made redundant, while there will only be an entry/exit point at the southern end of Haigh Avenue.

It is proposed the service station and McDonald’s would both have a 24-hour trading hours.
