A small pod of humpback whales were spotted frolicking off Kendall’s Beach, Storm Bay, Jones Beach and Minnamurra Beach.
Brad Gill was out enjoying the beautiful weather when he saw the acrobatics take place.
“I was on the headland just south of Kendall's beach, it was at about 11:30am when I first saw them,” he said.
“I was sitting down to have breakfast and I looked out and saw a bit of white wash outside, so I grabbed the camera hoping it was whales and I sat watching three of them and took photos for about 20 minutes.
“They were splashing their tales, which you could hear from the headland, and jumping out of the water.
“They seemed really playful, I guess they were enjoying the sun as much as everyone else.”
Each year between April and November, humpback whales make their annual migration of up to 10,000 kilometres along the east coast.
After a summer of feeding on krill in Antarctic waters, these charismatic animals migrate north to sub-tropical waters where they mate and give birth.
