‘’This is a special year for us and it was made even more special by the Minister’s visit,’’ she said.
The NSW Education Minister Rob Stokes and Heathcote MP Lee Evans even came bearing gifts, donating $2000 towards the school’s community garden.
‘’It was nice for them to come and support the school,’’ Miss Paterson said.
‘’It was nice to get the extra recognition. The students enjoyed the visit and the Minister seemed to enjoy it as well.’’
Mr Stokes said the funds will go into a permanent commemoration of the school’s centenary.
The works will complement the school’s celebrations happening right throughout the year. These include the upcoming ‘1917 themed’ fete on June 17 and the 100th year celebratory dinner in October.
‘’Stanwell Park Public School has taught generations of students since opening in 1917, and that is an extraordinary achievement that all staff, students and families from across the years should feel very proud of,’’ Mr Stokes said.
Mr Evans added the school was an integral part of the local community and its centenary was an opportunity to recognise this.
‘’I take my hat off to staff, students, families and community members who have helped make the school such an important and much loved part of Stanwell Park,’’ he said
