Dr Peter Manning will talk about his 2016 book Janet Venn-Brown: A Life in Art, with input from Janet Venn-Brown.
In her 90s and still painting, Australian artist Janet Venn-Brown has led an extraordinary life in Australia and abroad.
Australian journalist Peter Manning has crafted this captivating biography which celebrates Venn-Brown’s life; her artistic career, love story with Palestinian activist Wael Zuaiter, political engagements in the Middle East, 40 years in Rome, and recent homecoming.
An elaborate collection of the artist’s oils and watercolours are presented in the richly illustrated soft-cover publication.
About Peter Manning
Peter Manning teaches postgraduate students at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) and was awarded his Doctorate of Philosophy in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences there in 2014.
Prior to teaching, Manning was head of news and current affairs at the Seven Network (1996 – 2000), and head of TV news and current affairs at the ABC (1989 – 1993) and was the founder of Lateline and Foreign Correspondent.
His publications have included Us and Them : Media, Muslims and the Middle East (Random House) and he is also a public commentator in various forums on media matters.
The publication Janet Venn-Brown: A Life in Art will be available for sale and signature at a concessional price.
The talk will be followed by a question and answer session and afternoon tea. Entry donation is $5 FOKL members and $8 visitors.
