Kiama is a little healthier after selling all 2.4 tonnes of our fresh, pink lady apples in just over one week. Thanks to our many healthy, apple-eating friends and supporters and thank you to the many businesses who supported the project including: Centrepoint Fitness Centre, Curves, Kiama Downs Guardian Pharmacy, Kiama Leisure Centre, Kiama Manning Street Pharmacy, Kiama Newsagency and Kiama Tourist Information Centre. Funds raised will help support local and international projects.
We were very pleased to be able to assist Barnardos Australia last week by purchasing a Continuous Positive Airways Pressure machine to treat sleep apnoea. CPAP equipment has three basic parts. The first is an air pump. The second is a mask that covers the nostrils or nose and sometimes the mouth. The third is a tube to link the two. The CPAP pump takes air from the room and gently pressurises it. The air blows through the tube and mask into the throat. The pressure of the air keeps the throat open while you are asleep.
KIAMA LIONS
This week saw the delivery of the cladding for the Respite house; we are very grateful to the good folks at CSR in Sydney for their generosity.
At our next dinner meeting on May 22 we heard from the 2 boys who we sponsored for the Navigator Course at the Outward Bound Centre. It is always heartening to hear how this intense and challenging course has changed their lives. Many of us wish we had been given the opportunity when we were that age.
On Friday June 2, we are holding a Centenary Party at the Pavilion to celebrate 100 years of Lions International. We have invited Lions from our neighbouring clubs, Minnamurra, Gerringong and Shellharbour.
You will be seeing lots of our members doing their "Door Knocking" appeal for the Salvation Army over the next week or so. If by chance you were out when someone has called, please feel free to donate at the stall outside Woolies on May 28-29.
At our final meeting of the Lions year on June 8, we will have Susan Wallis from Interchange Illawarra talking to us about the impact that our Respite Cottage will have for Carers.
