The Under 11s started the day with a good roll up of players. After a great game of footy Bermagui just got home by 3 points. Final scores: Bermagui defeated Narooma 6-3-39 to 5-6-36; goal scorers: A. Hummel-2, L. Allison-2, F. Frisken-1. Best players: L. Allison, A. Hummel, F. Frisken, W. Tiffen.
In the Under 13s, Bermi were again too strong for the Lions’ young side. The Narooma players battled hard all day but could not get the job done. Final scores: Bermagui 6-11-47 to Narooma 4-1-25; goal scorers: M. Parker -3, T. Wilson-1. Best players; M. Parker, L. Allison, J. Mikolic.
Next up were the Under 16s. Again the Lions fielded a very young side against the Breakers. This was a great game from start to finish with both teams really having a crack. Narooma led all day to run out winners 8-9-57 to 6-6-42. Well done boys, a good win to start the season. Goal scorers; T. Mikolic-3, J.Mikolic-2, P.Sly-1, M.Parker-1. Best players: T. Mikolic, M. Parker, T. Hodge, J. Taylor.
The women’s team was next up, with a huge list of players to choose from it looked to be a great day. The girls started off well, scoring goals early.
With several new players having first games it was a great result with Narooma running out easy winners against a valiant Bermagui side. with plenty of players now keen to play the Lions ladies should be very competitive against the more experienced sides.

The last game of the day was the senior match. This was always going to be a great contest with both sides keen for a first up win.
Narooma and Bermagui have developed a healthy rivalry over many years so the big crowd expected a fierce contest. Both sides went in hard all day with only a few goals separating the teams at the main break.
The game remained close right up to three quarter time, the Lions only kicking away in the last 10 minutes for a 40-point win. Goal scorers: J. Reed-6, J.Sly-2, S.Mackie-1, Z. Cowley-1, L. Clothier-1, B. Mcculloch-1; Best players: J .Reed, R. Hawkey, J. Sly, J. Lang, B. Mcculloch.
It was a great day of local footy with a big crowd enjoying the day. A big thank you to all those people who helped out on the day.
