Manager of community and cultural development Nick Guggisberg said the projects funded represented a strong balance between innovative histories of the Kiama region and programs developing skills for performing artists.
“Trevor Wilson’s A New History of Kiama: Kiama's Connections Reassessed promises a refreshing look at Kiama in its full social-political context,” Mr Guggisberg said.
“We have also funded Ignite, an eight-week training program to develop confidence in performance and presenting for aspiring artists who normally could not afford coaching.”
Other projects to receive funding are:
*Air KISS - an adjunct to the K.I.S.S Arts Festival, this project will organise and help staff the newly designated AIR (Arts in Residence) K.I.S.S Arts Tent.
*A Closer Look: Lost and Found Treasure of Kiama - this project celebrates the architectural treasures of Kiama and the stories attached to them with an emphasis on often overlooked domestic architecture.
Kiama council provides a total of $20,000 per annum in cultural grants to support the development and delivery of arts and cultural projects.
Applicants are able to apply for up to $3000 per project.
The deadline for the next funding round is Sunday, August 20.
