During recent months, Minnamurra resident Carole Campbell has been taking her dogs for visits to Kiama’s Blue Haven nursing home to provide companionship, or pet therapy, for the residents.
On other days she also visits individual residents, and recently decided to make patchwork quilts for some of them.
“She makes these smaller quilts to suit beds in the nursing homes and does around one a week,” Friends of Blue Haven Aged Care Facility’s Col Rathbone said.
“She also does the companion animal visits using a greyhound and a whippet.”
At a recent meeting of the Friends of Blue Haven Aged Care Facility, the group decided to donate $100 to Ms Campbell to help cover some of her costs in producing the quilts.
Ms Campbell was surprised by the donation, but said, “I enjoy doing it (the quilting), and they seem to enjoy having them”.
