Waste management officer Josephine St John said March was an ideal time to get to grips with the shed full of old furniture, toys, bikes, microwaves and fridges.
Ms St John said Kiama council would provide its annual Household Kerbside Clean Up Collection across the urban residential areas throughout March.
“Residents should check their 2016/18 waste and recycling calendars to find out when the Household Kerbside Clean Up is happening in their zone,” she said.
“The calendar also lists what items you can leave on your kerb and how much.”
“It is important residents know what materials will be accepted as ineligible materials will not be collected.
“However, with our Community Recycling Centre at the Minnamurra Waste and Recycling Facility now up and running, residents can drop off a huge range of household problem wastes such as paints, gas bottles, light globes, computers and televisions, free of charge.”
The Community Recycling Centre is open Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm and Saturdays 8am to 12 noon. More details can be found in the waste and recycling calendar.
Ms St John said council was also providing its annual Household Chemical CleanOut Collection on Saturday, March 25, which allows people to drop off poisons, pool chemicals, acids and other problematic items.
Council is also hosting its popular Second Hand Saturday on Saturday, March 25, which is an opportunity to sell, swap or trade that much-loved item that still has life left in it.
Residents can book a site online at www.kiama.nsw.gov.au.
“Council is strongly encouraging residents to make the most of these events in March to get on top of that growing pile of old items lurking in the back of your shed, garage or spare room,” Ms St John said.
