While there was some spectacular racing on the track including a dramatic finish, in the air there was also a plenty of action including a crew from HMAS Albatross.
A Royal Australian Air Force F/A-18 Hornet, from Williamtown near Newcastle streaked across the sky putting on an amazing show while a Virgin Australia performed a low level flyover in a 737 just prior to the race start.
In amongst all the action was a team of aviators from 723 Squadron at Albatross.
Pilot, Lieutenant Tom Corlis and the Royal Navy's Lieutenant James Lovell as the aviation warfare officer took part in the flypast in the Bell 429 as well as performing aerial displays.
As well as taking in the great race, the crews also met with honorary navy Lieutenant Chaz Mostert and toured the Preston Hire Racing facilities.
The crews discussed technical elements of the car, going over the difference in equipment needs as well as comparing the physical demands on the body while driving fast cars or aircraft.
