Our female athletes were right on target with sprinter Stephanie Power taking out the first All Comer meet 100 and 200 metres in good times for so early in the season.
Another sprinter Gianna Mogentale changed her spikes to move onto the sand to capture her sprint events in fine form and qualify also for the open female sprint. She was also the fastest female in the masters categories on the sand.
She was joined by masters male athlete John Van Stappen who also had a fine run on the beach, both preparing for the world masters championships in Perth in November.
Meanwhile thrower June Lowe returned to the track with some good throwing at club level, she too preparing for the world masters titles.
Shot/discus athlete Maree Louise Meier continues on her improvement and another good put in local club competition last Sunday sees this talented thrower now in contention for both events, discus and shot, in the coming up NSW All Schools titles to be held in November.
Sprinter Margo Chauvet recorded an excellent 60.02 sec for the 400 metres at her schools meet and a podium finish for this talented sprinter, in the state All Schools is well within her.
A sub 60 secs is also within her reach. Her ability over all three sprints is her greatest asset.
A tight finish resulted in the women’s under 16 100m at the club’s first round of the summer season with Grace Adams and Natasha Hynoski fighting it out.
Indications are that these girls will be fighting for positions right through the season, along with Margo.
The second round of club meets will be conducted this Sunday at 2pm at Kerryn McCann Athletic Centre.
The meet will have an added bonus with athletes expected to come from various other clubs in join in the open meet IBS will conduct. Any athlete can compete so come along and give it a go, any age from under 8 right through to masters.
It is expected masters athletes will use this meet as a pre departure meet prior to leaving for the World titles in Perth in November.
IBS lost one of its former members with the passing of former president Barry Keem Snr. Barry’s dry sense of humour, his passion for sport and his devotion to his family were all highly respected by members of IBS - our condolences go out to the family and our best wishes go also to his wife Marion.
Marion was a strong supporter of Barry when he was president and the achievements of both Baz jnr and Anita as athletes. Our thoughts are with you all at this sad time.
Dont forget IBS has the transistion to senior athletics so much easier now for Little A;s members, with Dual registration now allowing for members to select a senior club they wish to belong to.
Many have selected IBS to become a member of and we welcome them all into our club. We can cater for more members, with coaches if you require one, top officials and a pathway for you to move forward in your athletic career.
Don’t hesitate come join IBS and have a season of good company, good fun and good opportunity. Potential members can register at any club meet - the process is simple.
