A severe weather warning for damaging winds has been issued by the Bureau of Meteorology, with a northwesterly airstream expected to strengthen ahead of a cold front on Friday.
Winds averaging 60 to 70 km/h, with peak gusts in excess of 90km/h, are expected over elevated areas, possibly affecting coastal parts.
Possible late rain and a top of 24 degrees is expected in Wollongong on Friday, with the mercury to tipped to climb to 25 degrees at Albion Park.
A gale warning has been issued for the Illawarra and Batemans coasts.
The arrival of the cold front will see temperatures will drop as low as 15 degrees along the coast and 16 inland on Sunday.
