The project, due to completed in mid-2018, has been underway for 18 months.
Next month traffic between Mullers Lane and Queen Street will be temporarily moved onto the northbound lanes of the bypass – one lane in each direction – while work on the southbound lane commences.
This comes after two kilometres of new highway north of Berry was opened earlier this year.
Parliamentary secretary for the Illawarra Gareth Ward said a long-term road closure was coming, also part of the construction of the bypass.
“Motorists are advised Huntingdale Park Road at Kangaroo Valley Road will be closed for about six months to allow work to progress on the Kangaroo Valley Road interchange,” Mr Ward said
“A temporary side road will be opened at Austral Park Road to allow work to progress at this location.”
Schofields Lane motorists will be detoured via the Hitchcocks Lane extension and Huntingdale Park Road so work on the highway south of Berry to progress.
