An extract … “On behalf of the village health volunteers team as well as the members of the Madang Country Women’s Association, we would like to thank you and your team for donating the content. We appreciate your continuous support towards helping to ensure that the mothers and babies in our remote areas of Madang Province in Papua New Guinea are not forgotten and are well cared for”.
We thank our many local Rotary friends and supporters who helped us collect these valued items. Unfortunately, we have had to put part of this project on hold while we resolve some logistical challenges. We are still able to continue with birthing kits in the meantime.
Kiama Rotarians are also actively involved in fund-raising for two very important Australian Rotary Health, PhD Research Scholarships. Australian Rotary Health is one of the largest independent funders of health research within Australia. It is a project of the Rotary Districts of Australia and is supported by Rotary Clubs across the country.
The two specific research projects members are involved with are examining (1) drug resistance of melanoma and (2) Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder in Emergency Services personnel.
The melanoma research funding is provided through the joint efforts of the Rotary Clubs of Kiama and Gerringong Sunrise. The primary fund-raising event for this is the Rotary Car Spectacular which will be held at Kiama Showground on Sunday, November 13, 2016.
The Emergency Services PTSD Research is funded by the combined Rotary Clubs of NSW through the Rotary NSW Emergency Services Community Awards. Kiama Rotarians are actively involved in organising this event with this year’s finalists scheduled to be announced at Parliament House later this week.
