Kiama Mayor Brian Petschler joined with Federal Member for Gilmore Ann Sudmalis to officially launch new CCTV cameras in Gerringong on Thursday.
The cameras are part of Kiama council’s Crime Prevention Plan, which saw 24 cameras switched on in the Kiama CBD in 2015.
The network of cameras will cover the main shopping areas on Fern Street, Gerringong.
This includes the footpath out the front of shops south of Belinda Street, a section added to the network following the period of community consultation in November 2015.
The system in Gerringong is a standalone system, with images being recorded to a server housed in the Gerringong Town Hall.
Cr Petschler said it was great to be able to extend the network of cameras to areas of the municipality outside the Kiama CBD.
“This is a wonderful addition to council infrastructure, but also in assisting to keep our CBD areas protected,’’ Cr Petschler said.
The three levels of government contributed to the network of cameras in the Kiama and Gerringong CBDs.
The federal government provided $150,000, Kiama council $80,000 and the state government $50,000.
