Lake Heights’ Skye Burgess won the Open Women’s, and is now the only competitor in the event’s history to win three titles in a row twice.
Sandon Point’s Jake Spooner took out the Senior Men’s. This was his eighth win in all divisions. His first title was in 1989 in the under-18s. Currarong’s Ty Watson won the Open Men’s.
Other winners included Kiama’s Chae Conti (under 14 boys); Dolphin Point’s Zane Stedman (under 16 boys); Sandon Point’s Kyen Stuart (under 18s boys); and Shellharbour’s Kiara Meredith (under 16 girls).
“On Saturday morning things weren’t looking great, but conditions improved during the morning and there was a consistent two to three feet of swell, with the occasional larger set,” Dave Hunt, event coordinator from Werri Beach Boardriders said.
“On Sunday it looked smaller, but as we got it started the waves started breaking a lot better.”
