Jervis Bay Territory (JBT) was surrendered by NSW to the Commonwealth in 1915 to give the nation’s capital access to the sea and, at present, ACT laws apply there.
A proposal for NSW to deliver state type services in Jervis Bay is being considered by the Commonwealth, NSW and ACT governments.
“The Australian Capital Territory has long held the view it is not best placed to deliver services to the Jervis Bay Territory,” a ministerial budget statement on regional growth said.
“A proposal is expected to be put to the community for consideration during 2016-17.”
A final decision will be made following community consultation.
