Mayor, Michael Britten said the review will consider resident’s feedback on the community’s values, challenges and ambitions, gathered from an online survey and during a series of listening posts.
“The information we gather over the next two months will help us develop two major community documents: Understanding our Place 2040, and the updated Community Strategic Plan,” he said.
“Understanding our Place 2040 will collect the thoughts and opinions of everyone who participates, providing a document for the whole community to access and discover more about our collective thoughts and aspirations.
Our intention is to discover from everyone who lives here, what things you like, what you would change and how you imagine the Shire’s future.
- Bega Valley Shire Mayor Michael Britten
“From this document we will develop the Community Strategic Plan in partnership with key stakeholders.
“The Community Strategic Plan will identify long term community goals which stem from the community values and visions.”
The plan represents the highest level of strategic planning undertaken by a local council with all other plans developed as part of the framework needing to reflect and support the implementation of the plan.
The Local Government Act 1993 requires the review take place before June next year.
Council are inviting “everyone from preschool kids to local businesses and visitors” to participate in the public consultation process beginning on Monday, April 18 with their launch of an online survey that asks “some thought provoking questions”.
“In addition we will be holding a wide range of listening posts across the Shire and some targeted consultations with a variety of groups that include preschool-aged children, local chambers and community advocates,” Cr Britten said.
The first listening post will be held at the Nethercote Markets on Saturday, April 23.
“Our intention is to discover from everyone who lives here, what things you like, what you would change and how you imagine the Shire’s future,” Cr Britten said.
“It’s a massive undertaking for everyone involved, but the results will give us the best insight into this place we call home.”
The online survey will be available from Monday, April 18 at www.begavalley.nsw.gov.au/haveyoursay and hard copies will be available from the Shire’s libraries.
