At Tuesday night’s council meeting, councillors resolved to support in principle the refurbishment/renovation of the council-owned building at 105 Shoalhaven Street, Kiama by the Kiama Lions Club to be used as a holiday respite house, predominantly for carers.
They also resolved to commence the gateway process to permit the proposal, and enter into a peppercorn lease agreement with the Lions Club for ten years subject to the relevant approvals.
Kiama Lions would be responsible for the major costs of refurbishment of the unoccupied council property.
Kiama Lions will be seeking funding from Lions International in addition to using some of their own funds.
The proposal will need to be part of a gateway proposal to amend zoning provisions.
