The Kiama Independent will be talking to a number of the standout performers in the lead-up to the festival.
In the meantime, he’s a rundown of some of the highlights.
*Fix: Michael Fix and Adrian Fix. Acclaimed acoustic guitar virtuoso Michael Fix in duo with percussionist son Adrian. His eclectic guitar repertoire takes an exhilarating new direction with the injection of stomp box, cajón and assorted percussion. Classical rock to jazz, original and upbeat. Will be performing at KaBari Bar, Mercure Resort Gerringong, Penny Whistlers.
*Michael Fix and Andrew Toner. Michael Fix in duo with guitar maestro Andrew Toner. Classical blues rock to jazz, and everything in-between. Performing at Kiama Leagues Club auditorium on the Saturday afternoon.
*Doug Williams and The Mix. Originally from the USA, Williams is here to get down with his big hot soul, funk and blues band of nine feisty players. Williams has played and toured with Stevie Wonder, Tina Turner, James Brown, Ray Charles, Renee Geyer and Kate Ceberano to name a few. It’s a boogie wonderland, get ready to groove big time. Kiama Leagues Club auditorium on Saturday night at 8.30pm.
*Blue Eyes Cry. Slick, modern and funky foursome, this energetic young group go way beyond standard blues. Watch out for Ise’s exceptional vocals. Performing at Little Blowhole Cafe and Art Bar, Kiama Inn Hotel, All Day Jazz and Blues Hindmarsh Park, Sunday.
*Unity Hall Jazz Band. Swinging Aussie Jazz, regulars at Unity Hall Hotel Balmain for 40 years. Performing at Kiama Leagues Club, 5pm Saturday.
*Ward’s Xpress. Blues and classic rock, with 20 years of performing and touring Ross Ward and his band is right up there with Aussie blues royalty. Veteran of 10 Byron Bay Blues Festivals. Performing at Kiama Bowling Club, Saturday night at 9pm.
*Paul Winn Band. Four-piece guitar-driven blues with an improvisational style incorporating jazz and funk. Performing at Kiama Leagues Club, 10pm to midnight, Saturday.
*Out of Abingdon. Shades of Bjork, Nina Simone and Grant Green, this raw beautiful music grooves and delights. Double bass, guitar and vocals. Performing at Cafe Parkview, Amaki Cottage Cafe, Kiama Leagues Club.
*Young Bands Come Out to Play. Showcasing young, local and emerging talent, it will feature El Grande with Joe Mungovan and James Vann, Tropical Wax with Ben Fryer, Sean Emmett and Kiama High School Band. The event will take place at Hindmarsh Park on the Saturday afternoon.
*All Day Jazz and Blues Concert, Hindmarsh Park from 11am Sunday. Two stages, groove all day, everyone’s welcome. Featuring Chris Harland Blues Band at 11am, Australian Navy Big Band at noon, Dane Laboyrie Band at 1pm, Blue Eyes Cry 2pm, Sound of KoKo 3pm, and Tommy M and the Mastersounds at 4pm to finish the day.
*Jazz Gospel Service and Ss Peter and Paul Catholic Church, noon on Sunday. A non-denominational musical celebration featuring 18 voices of The Honeybees and The Parson Sons Plus Gospel Band. Everyone’s welcome and your gold coin donation will go to the Homestead of Hope.
