DefenceCare helps current and ex-serving members of the Australian Defence Force and their families in times of injury, illness or crisis.
Digger Day chairman and organiser Rick Meehan, along with Nowra RSL Sub-Branch president Fred Dawson presented the funds to DefenceCare general manager Robyn Collins.
This year’s Digger Day was a huge success raising $60,000.
“We had a highly successful weekend, with the Digger Day game and activities at Shoalhaven Rugby Park, including the visit by the VCs, the Digger Day ball and the sale of the special commemorative jerseys,” Mr Meehan said.
“It is great to be able to to support DefenceCare, which is the main charity the RSL supports.
“The work they do for veterans with counselling, financial assistance, pension support and just advocacy is superb.”
Mr Meehan said the remainder of the funds raised would be put into supporting the Nowra RSL Sub-Branch and the work it does in with local veterans and to help promote and run Digger Day into the future.
