The BOM forecasts very heavy rain in the Illawarra and South Coast River Valleys, and smaller local streams and coastal lakes during Monday and Tuesday.
The rain may be heavy enough to cause localised flash flooding in low-lying areas.
If Flood Warnings are issued, the NSW State Emergency Service (SES) will release flood bulletins about the situation and what residents should do to protect themselves, their family and their property.
Please listen carefully to these bulletins.
Any flooding will initially affect low-lying areas and flood-prone local roads.
The NSW SES advises that people in the Illawarra and South Coast areas should watch the weather and look out for flood waters near their properties.
Farmers located on the floodplain should be ready to move pumps, other equipment and livestock if floodwaters rise.
It is essential that people avoid walking or driving through floodwaters, which could be deeper or faster-flowing than they look.
Children, in particular, should be kept away from streams and storm water drains.
For more information on the weather, visit www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 218.
People needing help with storm damage or with flooding can contact the NSW SES on 132 500.
The NSW SES is monitoring the situation.
Keep listening to this station for updates or check the NSW SES website at www.ses.nsw.gov.au for more details.
