Accompanied by the Kiama MP Gareth Ward, Mr Elliott paid tribute to the SES and the invaluable contribution they make to the community.
“It’s a great honour for me to come out and meet the units in person,” Mr Elliott said.
“Coming from a background of emergency services and combat agencies myself, I have a great deal of affection for people who volunteer and put on uniforms and who put themselves in harm’s way for the benefit of their community.
“As a minister, I think it’s important that the rank and file members know that I am taking an interest in their welfare – it’s very important.”
Kiama SES Controller Warren Turner said his unit really enjoyed the opportunity to meet the minister.
“It shows that Kiama is important and we had the chance to show him what we are really good at, as well as showing off our impressive headquarters and extension,” Mr Turner said.
“We are now in full training after winning the NSW State Disaster Rescue competition and will represent the State at the Australian titles in Canberra in September.
“The minister congratulated us on the win and said he will attempt to attend the finals to lend his support.”
