It is really pleasing that after all the difficult financial decisions we have had to make in the past three years that we were able to confirm that we have the scale and capacity to stand alone and not be amalgamated.
The report outlines that low spending on asset renewal in the past has impacted our current level of asset renewal, but the steps taken through the adoption of a Special Rate Variation has us on a very steep, upward trend.
IPART will assess each submission and make its recommendations before the end of the year.
Improving our community is truly a joint project that has been embraced by CityServe Shellharbour, who worked with council for its third working bee. Last month, more than 130 volunteers from seven Albion Park Churches along with volunteers from across the city blitzed the surrounds of the Albion Park Skate Park, library, museum and Pioneer Cemetery.
Volunteers laid concrete, repaired stone wall, tidied gardens, mulched and painted.
Young people have begun to work on developing the foundations of a Youth Council with our Youth Services team. It would be great to see more people become part of the working group and attend the next meeting at 6.30pm, Tuesday, July 14 at the Blackbutt Youth Centre. Call the centre for more information on 4295 3820.
There are plenty of free activities being held during the school holiday period. Arts and crafts, movie screenings and parties for young children and skate days and circus workshops are just some of what young people can enjoy. Details are on the council's website.
Alice in Wonderland will be staged at the Blackbutt Youth Centre next week. Produced by Shellharbour Youth Services drama group, The Gullibles, it will open on Monday, July 6 at 7pm and have performances during the week at 11am on Wednesday and Thursday, and close on Friday at 7pm.
The production has involved more than 20 young people during the last 10 weeks and includes actors as young as 12 and as old as 24 - a real cross section of young people doing something creative and positive in their community. It is the traditional tale of Alice with all your favourite characters.
Balarang Vacation Care is booked on Wednesday, July 8 and is already sold out, so for bookings or inquiries about getting involved in programs phone 4295 3820.
