Each year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres and at home throughout the country.
Warilla Library together with Oak Flats and Albion Park took part in the event, which aims to encourage more young Australians to read and enjoy books and promotes the value of reading and literacy using an Australian children’s book.
This year, The Brothers Qubbile by Aaron Blabey was read to tiny onlookers who also took part in some dance and craft after the reading had finished.
Shellharbour councillor Kellie Marsh was in attendance to read to little ones from Warilla Occasional Childcare and pre-school, as well as other Shellharbour children.
A book is selected each year based on key learning areas of the National Curriculum for Grades F to 6 and the pre-school Early Learning Years Framework.
Shellharbour libraries hold storytime events throughout the week; to find out when visit shellharbour.nsw.gov.au and go to the ‘What’s on @ your library’ page.
