Competitors in the Groms (under-14), Cadets (under-16) and Juniors (under-18) all fought a series of hard battles in an attempt to claim a coveted NSW title and qualify for the NRMA NSW Team for the Australian Surf Festival.
After finishing in the runner-up spot in the Junior Men at event one of the NRMA NSW Bodyboard State Titles in Port Stephens, Shayden Schrader (Port Macquarie) managed to go one notch better claiming the highly competitive final.
In a final where all bodyboarders posted respectable mid-range scores, Schrader mustered up a heat total of 10.84 (out of a possible 20 points) to get a narrow victory over runner-up Keiran Riches (Coffs Harbour) by a 0.44 margin. As a result Schrader qualified for the NRMA NSW Team for the Australian Surf Festival at Coffs Harbour in August.
Liam Flanagan (Matraville) took out the final of the Cadets division posting a 6.33 and a 6.83 (out of a possible ten points) to get the nod over Central Coast bodyboarder Harry Crain (Copacabana). Flanagan performed a serious of powerful rolls to take the win and book his spot into the NRMA NSW Team.
Noah Gillroy (Botany) claimed his second victory over the dual NRMA NSW Bodyboard State Titles, taking out the Groms division. The Sydney bodyboarder took out both of his respective heats to get the upper-hand against Mitchell Atherton (Port Macquarie), Jack Rodgers (Lakewood) and Clay Murphy (Windale) who finished in second, third and fourth respectively. Both Rodgers and Murphy finished in the exact same position as the previous NRMA NSW Bodyboard State Titles event at Port Stephens.
