Mr Methold, a professional writer whose works include four crime novels, is hoping to start a monthly book club for males in the area who are interested in crime writing, both fiction and non-fiction.
‘‘There are a few book clubs in the area, but the majority are women and I don’t think a lot of the books they read appeal to men, so that’s why I’m starting up this group,’’ Mr Methold said.
Unlike traditional book clubs, Mr Methold said his would take a more relaxed approach towards what books its members read.
‘‘Most book clubs will have a list of books and you read a book a month and then talk about it.
‘‘I hardly have the time to read the books I want to read and I don’t have the time to read the books that other people want to read.
‘‘That’s why I just picked crime.
‘‘I enjoy reading it and there’s some great writing out there, some of the contemporary writing is really good and there’s great non-fiction and true crime books out there as well for those that don’t like fiction.
‘‘How it will work is members will pick a book, read it and then give a small review at the meeting and then people can decide if it’s something they would like to read.’’
Mr Methold said the group would meet in the afternoon of the last Thursday of each month, and would ideally be a group of about 15.
