Played under a four-pool system for the first time, which meant 14 fewer spots for teams after a request from the Australian Rugby Union, the day was played in perfect conditions.

"Despite less teams, it meant that all teams got to play a minimum of three games, with the whole day going off without a hitch, thanks to the hoard of volunteers who kept the program running smoothly," Bryant said.

"I spoke to a referee afterwards - who hadn't refereed at the Kiama Sevens before - and he said he couldn't believe just how smoothly things ran.

"Our crowd was approximately the same as last year, which is pretty impressive considering we didn't have as many teams.

"We had to get more beer than our original order during the day and completely ran out of food."

Manly A was again successful in winning the cup, defeating Warringah in a local derby final 7-5 after a scoreless second half. Easts defeated Manly B, who had earlier given their A side a fright in the semi, 29-7 in the Plate final.

The women's final was taken out by Warringah 10-7 over Penrith RSL, Musswellbrook were far too strong for Kiama in the Country Cup final, while the Black Cockatoos downed Avondale 20-12 in the Bowl final.

Bryant said plans were already under way for the 44th Sevens.

"I think the blueprint has now been set and we are looking forward to continuing its success."
