Two year-old Pippa, from Berry, was with her mother Linda at Westfield Warrawong on January 9 when she misplaced her one-of-a-kind handmade stuffed seagull.
While the two were separated more than two weeks ago, the toddler is still confident that it's only a matter of time before a reunion occurs.
"The seagull was handmade by a family friend from England," Mrs Hennessy said. "All the grandchildren in the family have one and Pippa has never really gone anywhere without hers.
"It's been through two hospital admissions with her and it's just really special to her.
"So Pippa's still pretty confident that the seagull is coming back, she just thinks he's gone away for a bit and will be back soon."
While Mrs Hennessy is not quite as confident as Pippa that the seagull will come home to roost, that hasn't stopped her from trying to find her daughter's beloved possession.
"I put something on Facebook about it and the Lake Illawarra police contacted me and asked if they could put it on their page which was really sweet and we really appreciate it.
"We just hope that if somebody saw it and handed it in or picked it up that they can help us get it back to Pippa. It would mean so much to her."
While Pippa waits for the reunion, a seagull similar to hers is helping.
"Her brother has let her carry around his seagull, but she knows the difference and definitely views it as a temporary replacement."
