It is the second year Illawarra Blue Stars has hosted the NSW one mile and 60-metre championships events at Kerryn McCann Athletic Centre at Beaton Park, but this year the event has expanded into the 2015 Illawarra Track Classic with the backing of Athletics NSW.
Spectators will be able to see a host of stars from Sydney, Illawarra, Nowra and Canberra compete and entry to the classic is free.
The January 17 meet will kick off with the state 60m at 5pm, with the mile as the finale at 7.30pm. There will also be races over 100m, 400m, 3000m, as well as shot put, high jump and long jump.
Illawarra Blue Stars secretary Valmai Loomes said the event included Commonwealth Games representative Michelle Jenneke.
Jenneke's pre-race warm-up dance before the 100m hurdles race at the 2012 World Junior Championships went viral on YouTube, with nine million views.
"She will face strong opposition in the sprints, including our own local female athletes, IBS's Stephanie Powell and Talissa Scott," Loomes said.
She said the women's mile also promised to be a great race, with high-calibre athletes including world junior rep Jessica Hull and state title and record holder Georgia Winkcup.
NSW 400m sensation James Kermond will be competing in the men's race.
Masters will be catered for with the NSW 35-plus men's and women's and the IBS 60m.
Loomes said the 60m, which includes open and under 20 divisions, would capture the public's attention with close contests predicted and locals expected to do well.
"We would like to build this up to be equal if not better than the Newcastle Classic, which has international athletes."
IBS sprinter Josh Bell, 17, will compete in the under-20 60m, 100m and 400m and is hoping for solid times ahead of the NSW Country titles.
"I think it'll be good because we've never had something like it down here," he said.
"It's close and I don't have to travel to Sydney; being in the home atmosphere it will be a lot easier."
Josh said it would put Wollongong on the map for athletics and showcase some quality athletes.
The Dapto teen has only been involved in athletics for two years, joining IBS from Dapto Little Athletics and Wollongong City Little As.
His best results to date are being part of the winning team for the under-17 4 x 100m relay, second in the under-17 long jump and 800m at the 2014 NSW Country Titles.
Entries will be taken until midnight on January 15 and, if space is available, entries on the day may be allowed.
