Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge have wrapped up the second day of their New York tour by "shooting some hoops" with their American counterparts, rapper Jay Z and pop star Beyonce, at an NBA game.

However, it was anything but an adoring welcome for the Duke and Duchess, who were seated on the opposite side of the court to America's version of royalty.
William and Catherine received a frosty reception in Brooklyn from the general public as a mass protest took place outside the Barclays Centre calling for national attention to be redirected to the Eric Garner decision.
 
The hashtag "royal shutdown" began trending on Twitter.
Garner, an African-American man, died after a white New York Police Department officer put him in an apparent chokehold in July. Video was circulated online of the 43-year-old being pinned to the ground, gasping "I can't breathe".
The officer was not indicted by a grand jury on December 3. Darren Wilson, the officer who shot teenager Michael Brown in Ferguson in August, was also not indicted in November.
"Black Lives matter more than two inbred Brits and their vacation, #royalsgohome," one sign read.
"You want to see our city, but do you care about our problems?" another stated.
The protest continued inside the stadium as high-profile NBA stars LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and Jarrett Jack wore shirts emblazoned with the slogan "I Can't Breathe" during warm-ups.
The atmosphere defrosted during three-quarter time when Beyonce and Jay Z crossed the court to meet William and Catherine as a medley of God Save The Queen and Crazy in Love sounded out through the arena.

While the singers adhered to the traditional etiquette of shaking William and Catherine's hands, NBA star James missed the palace memo about how one should never attempt to touch a member of the royal family.
When presenting the couple with personalised basketball jerseys and posing for photographs, James sidled up to Catherine and put his arm around the soon-to-be mother of two.
Earlier, William travelled to Washington to meet President Barack Obama and presented a keynote address to the World Bank about the importance of environmental conservation.
The Duke met the President inside the Oval Office where the pair discussed fatherhood and the "chaos" of Prince George's birth in 2013.
"I didn't work out whether it was a boy or a girl. The excitement of the event and everything else was just chaos, so you're suddenly like, 'actually, it's a boy in the end'," William told the President.
"You forgot to ask?" the President laughed.
The Duke then said "it's going to be interesting next year" in reference to the birth of their second child in April.
Meanwhile back in New York, Catherine, who was mistaken for being a princess from Frozen, was busy wrapping Christmas gifts in Harlem at a child development centre.
The royal couple were reunited at the British consulate and were joined by Hillary and Chelsea Clinton at a reception for United for Wildlife.
As Catherine changed into a boucle Tory Burch jacket and skinny jeans, William farewelled guests.
"I'm off to shoot some hoops now, or whatever it is the Americans call it," he said.
After taking their courtside seats to watch the last half of the Brooklyn Nets and Cleveland Cavaliers game, they waved awkwardly for the big screen cameras and declined a serving of nachos.
