The shield was initiated this year in the memory of Mrs Burgin, who was instrumental in the development of junior golf at the club.
The competition was designed to encourage junior membership and was played over six holes.
It could be played midweek to allow the players (and their parents/drivers) to fit it in with their busy weekday schedule.
"The competition was run over 38 weeks, with more than 20 players taking part at some stage," Gerringong Golf Club junior development chief Dean Matters said.
"While the numbers dropped off slightly in the latter stages, it was definitely a big success."
Winner of the inaugural shield, 15-year-old Matt Luke, said he was delighted to win.
"I have been playing golf for around three years and absolutely love it," Luke said.
"To be the winner of the first shield was a big thrill and something I will always remember."
It was also a special day for Matters as he was assisted by Kiama MP Gareth Ward and club president Geoff Manning in presenting the new junior pennant team with their playing gear.
"It has been eight years since we have had a junior pennant team and it is very special for our club," Matters said.
"The team is Manning Berry, Nathan Tiyce, Sam Matters, Matt Luke, Luke Taylor, Cameron Miller and Perry Matters - most of the boys haven't played pennants before, but they are practising hard and are really looking forward to the challenge.
"Not only is it competition format, but the players also gain the experience of playing on different courses."
Matt Luke said he was looking forward to playing pennants. "It's exciting to play in any team event, but to be part of such a young team will be a good challenge.
"But hopefully we will get better each game and develop into a good team as we get more experience."
