The latest television ratings reveal Canberra has a love of reality shows, Australian drama and science fiction.

Most Canberrans would never admit to an obsession with The Voice, which drew nearly 55,000 viewers, or My Kitchen Rules, watched by over 50,000 of us.

In fact, the top three shows in Canberra were reality television, pulling in close to 1.2 million viewers.

The Code, an Australian drama based in Canberra sat on the thirteenth spot, proving that politics can still thrill us.

Strangely enough for a city responsible for many cuts to the ABC, Canberra appears to be their top supporter.

ABC aired over half of the 11 shows which made it to the top 20, although both WIN and Prime pulled more viewers.

The rest of the nation tuned in for home renovation on House Rules, with just over 200,000 viewers per episode. Prime and WIN produced all the top billing shows, with series like My Kitchen Rules, Love Child and The Voice all making the top ten.

Australia's only international choices were Downton Abbey and Midsomer Murders, both stragglers at numbers 17 and 20 respectively.

Canberra by contrast, favoured the Britain's longest-running science fiction show, Doctor Who.

Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman stole the fourth place in the capital's heart, representing the only foreign television success apart from Death in Paradise.

Australian drama also proved to be a favourite among Canberrans, with Love Child, ANZAC Girls, and The Checkout all sitting comfortably in the top 20.

Love Child was the only Australian drama watched by the rest of Australia, who preferred US dramas such as Resurrection and The Blacklist.
