The newly constructed $39 million station which was launched last Friday has come under fire from Member for Shellharbour Anna Watson for having no toilets.
Ms Watson has written to Minister for Transport Gladys Berejiklian, asking for an explanation regarding a lack of toilets at the new Shellharbour Junction station.
Ms Watson said it was an “embarrassing omission” and she was puzzled as to why no toilets were built before the opening date.
Ms Watson spoke to a number of commuters at the station on Saturday, who had expressed “concern and disappointment” about the lack of toilets.
Member for Kiama Gareth Ward said arrangements were in the pipeline for station toilets, which would be built off the platform and near the carpark.
“As soon as landscaping and other arrangements are complete the station will have toilets,” he said.
“It is part of the finishing touches of the station.
"We weren’t going to delay the opening simply because that component hadn’t been completed.”
Ms Watson has asked the Minister to indicate precisely when new toilet facilities will be provided at Shellharbour Junction, and why a $39 million infrastructure asset was approved by the Minister without such facilities planned as part of the construction.
