IT appears there is some confusion about the issue of a boundary between South Gerringong and Gerroa, however the draft Illawarra Regional Growth and Infrastructure Plan does not propose to develop the lands between the two towns.

The images used by the Gerroa Protection Society actually show the lands proposed to be retained as an environmental buffer where no development is planned.
This creates a clear separation between South Gerringong and Gerroa and there is no intention of merging the two communities.
Also, the draft plan does not propose sand mining around Gerroa.
It identifies land for protection and sand resources that already exist.
Importantly it outlines how future planning decisions need to balance the economic needs of the region with the ongoing protection of the environment.
Any future decision for development would start with Kiama Municipal Council.
Ultimately the draft plan is open for public comment, it is not final.
In the interests of public consultation, we encourage the Kiama community to attend the meeting we have scheduled in your area to shape the final plan for the Illawarra region, or go online to lodge a submission at planning.nsw.gov.au/illawarra.
