The pairing of Roger Blakely and Billy Gorrissen, who won their semi-final by 11 shots, ran out eventual winners beating the two Micks, Miller and Ganderton, by 10. Blakely started the competition paired with club stalwart Rod Netherclift who sadly had to call for substitute Gorrissen due to illness.
Melbourne Cup celebrations interfered with our ladies competition last week as even the prospect of a beautiful bowling day couldn't compete with Fashions on the Field in our Seaview Restaurant.
As a result they could only fit in a Thursday social event with Jo Hair and Shirley Read first past the post, with runners-up Jan McIntyre and Errolyn Egan in a photo finish.
Some of the ladies were, however, able to make an appearance in the mixed triples competition semi-finals. Audrey Evans, Mick Weir and Tony Van Zanen defeated Mick Miller, Gloria Hodgson and Andrew Anstey in a close game that finished up with a scoreline of 18-16.
The other semi-final was fought out between the Jones family of Trevor, Les and Bronwyn Campbell, who prevailed over Cathy Rymer, Rob White and Steve Wills 26-17.
The men's regular social competition on Wednesday was called off due to the danger of lightning with local thunderstorms. But they made up for it on Thursday where the usual pairs competition resulted in a win for Merve Parkin and Billy Partridge, with runners-up Mick Norbury and Eric MacAuley.
On Saturday the triples team of Alex Ferandinio, Rob Milton and Peter Wallace prevailed with Cam Baker, Teddy McGinness and Andrew Anstey runners-up.
