Minister for Roads Duncan Gay made the announcement while inspecting the project site office located on the northern outskirts of Berry on Monday.
The site office is hoped to be operational by December 1 and once completed will house between 90 – 110 staff members from Roads and Maritime Services and construction company Fulton Hogan.
“It’s fabulous to see this project start to get underway,” Mr Gay said.
“We’re at the preliminary stages now, but people can expect to start to some of the major works start by mid to late January.”
Mr Gay said that Fulton Hogan, who are also carrying out the Gerringong bypass project, would be making every effort to ensure works do not adversely impact residents and motorists.
“This is an important project, but we understand that not everybody likes the impact that comes with this type of work,” he said.
“But Fulton Hogan and the RMS have shown on the Gerringong project that they work well together and they will be making sure that work is carried out in the least disruptive manner possible.”
An RMS spokesperson said that the 11-kilomtre project has been split into three sections, with work to be carried out concurrently.
The first section will see a major cutting carried out at the northern end of the project near Foxground, section two will feature upgrade works on the highway near Austral Park Road and section three will see the construction of the road way and bridges needed to bypass the Berry township.
Mr Gay said also said that the Gerringong bypass is still on time to be completed by mid 2015, while the Berry to Bomaderry Princes Highway upgrade is currently in the planning stage.
