Councillor Marianne Saliba has praised the volunteer initiative by Illawarra church groups to undertake works sooner than the council could manage.
Work will begin at Little Park in Shellharbour village this Saturday as volunteers remove weeds, rebuild the garden edge, lay turf, repaint the rotunda and clean the beach.
The model for the project is based on City Serve, which was run in Newcastle.
Cr Saliba said the council had a long list of works to get through to improve open spaces and infrastructure.
"This support from the community will help reach our targets sooner and make the area better for everyone," she said.
The organisers have selected Little Park in Shellharbour Village due to its significance within the local community and for tourism.
Anyone interested in participating is invited to the park between 8am and 3pm, on Saturday, November 1.
Participants must bring their own protective clothing.
