Kyama's dad Kevin visited Kiama in the 1970s and liked the place so much, he named his daughter after it.
With perfect late winter weather showing the place off to its best advantage, Kyama revisited her namesake town with her daughter Talesha, 15.
Kyama said she was constantly asked the origins of her name in Victoria, where she lives, but she kind of liked that.
"Dad was a surfer who had to try every beach around. He had come along through here and just loved it," the 36-year-old said.
"I can never just say my name and walk away. But it's a good opener."
Kyama said she had seen lots of photos of the town and visited when she was eight.
A two-day trip last week was designed to rekindle the fondness and introduce Talesha.
While they were here the pair took in the Minnamurra rainforest and an unco-operative blowhole. "I can see why dad loved it," Kyama said. "We love it, we'll definitely return."
