I congratulate the residents adjoining the site studying the proposed plan in conjunction with NSW government authorities (ISLHD), in selling part of 3.3 acres for private development.
I strongly disapprove of such subdivision, having been involved with the community to keep it in public hands. The excuse the money gained will restore the Barroul House is a feeble argument.
Perhaps the councillors need a reminder once again to check the four foundation stones in the building erected by their predecessors (Mayor of Kiama, Mayor of Gerringong, Mayor of Jamberoo) who in the 1930s were made carers of the whole 3.3-acre site.
I believe that Kiama Municipal Council needs to be very transparent to the ratepayers in this proposed deal with NSW Health Department and explain whether money gained for this subdivision goes directly to NSW Health and whether such arrangement complies with the Local Government Act.
