Once completed the remodelled store will feature a more open plan design, expanded aisle space and additional check-out lanes.
Work has started on the first stage of the upgrade and the entire project is expected to be finished by late October.
Woolworths Kiama store manager Drew Burns said the works would create a more open plan layout and design.
"When the work is done the store will be a lot better looking. It will be more open and a lot more inviting,"
"The first stage of the works is the deli section, it and the bakery will be pushed over and that will give us a bigger produce section.
"Our meat section will be pushed back and people will be able to see the butchers at work and by doing that we will be able to extend all of the aisles by three bays, allowing us to carry a bigger range of stock."
Mr Burns said the store would operate as normally as possible during the work.
"We'll be open the whole time, there might be a bit of inconvenience but it will be worth it in the long run.
"We'll have more space at check-outs and more check-outs. The whole store will have a better arrangement."
While Woolworths undergoes a facelift, there is still no indication Kiama is in line for second supermarket soon.
A Kiama Municipal Council spokesperson said negotiations for the sale of the old Westons site in Shoalhaven Street, ear-marked for a supermarket, were still ongoing.
