PETERBOROUGH Special School received a cheque for more than $7000 last week to help create a safer environment for students.

The donation was a collective effort by Minnamurra Lions Club ($500), Kiama Game Fishing Club ($2500) and the state government ($5223). The money was presented by Kiama MP Gareth Ward.
The Warilla school educates students with special needs aged from four years old to year 12. The donations will go towards playground upgrades.
Principal Sue Corkey said the upgrade would improve the school's overall safety.
"The fishing club and Lions groups come on board to help us with various school projects every year."
President of the Kiama Game and Fishing Club Mark Way said the club had worked with the Minnamurra Lions Club to help raise the money.
"Now the children of this school have a safe area where they can play, which will alleviate pressures for the teachers.
"The students come from throughout the entire region."
Mr Ward said he was pleased the government got on board to support the school and help to better cater to its unique needs, thereby benefiting the whole community.
