THE Wollongong Hawks have announced reigning NBL Coach of the Year and dual Olympian Gordie McLeod will lead them for a further three years.
McLeod said he was excited to be signing a multi-year deal given the club's new direction under private ownership.
"The Hawks have proven time and again that they have the heart and the ability to mix it with the best," McLeod said.
"I look forward to leading them into the new season and giving the fans some amazing basketball action.
"These really are exciting times to be a fan of basketball in the Illawarra region and I'm proud to be a part of it."
Wollongong Hawks chairman Peter Bahlmann said the signing was a coup for the club and the community.
"It goes without saying that we are pleased to see Gordie commit to the club long-term.
"I'm sure fans will welcome this great news."
McLeod said he was excited about the future under potential new owner James Spenceley.
"We are entering a new era in the club's history.
"I'm excited by James's vision."
There is little chance for McLeod to reflect on his appointment.
He is now heading to Las Vegas for the NBA Summer League camp to uncover the Hawks' next superstar player.
