Originally from Adelaide, Muller rose to fame in the mid-1990s touring and recording with James Morrison, Vince Jones and Don Burrows. He also recorded with nationally renowned artists including Maria Schneider, Bill Stewart and Bob Sheppard.
Muller has recorded four CDs under his own name. The second, All Out, won an ARIA award for best jazz album in 2000 and the third, Thrum, was nominated for the same award in 2002.
Alex Boneham on bass and Ben Vanderwal on drums will join Muller for the Wollongong gig, much to the pleasure of Wollongong Conservatorium of Music jazz director Eric Dunan.
"It is big news in the jazz community when Muller comes through town. He is truly one of the best jazz guitarists in the world and we are so happy that he was able to fit us in on this tour," Dunan said.
The James Muller Trio will play at the Con's premises at Glennifer Brae from 7pm on Wednesday, July 2. Tickets cost $20/$15/$10 at the door or $15/$12/$10 online.
